Cerence is seeking a student for a university placement during their gap year. This is a fully remote opportunity for a UK-based student to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting, contribute to the organization’s objectives, and manage their own learning with guidance from supervisors and a support team.

Requirements

  • Education: Must be enrolled in a UK university for a Computer Science degree or a related field.
  • Minimum Years of Undergraduate Study: 2 years
  • Required Skills:
    • Already completed basic Computer Science courses.
    • Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in computer programming, preferably in Python.
    • Demonstrated individual effort in course projects or assignments.
  • Good Software Engineering Skills: Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., shell scripting, Perl) and experience working under both Linux and Windows.
  • Communication Skills: Solid written and oral communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct experiments and develop small applications to translate theoretical concepts into practical applications.
  • Engage with colleagues, supervisors, and the support team to progress on assigned projects and meet deadlines.
  • Take initiative, seek out new challenges, and contribute to the team’s success.
  • Take ownership of assigned development tasks, document them, and present them to the team.
  • Establish clear communication channels with the supervisor and seek guidance as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications (Details)

  • Education: Computer Science degree or related field.
  • Programming: Python language proficiency.
  • Experience: Experience developing a medium-scale project using Python is preferred.
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Interest in Artificial Intelligence, especially Large Language Models (LLMs).
    • Background in natural language processing, speech technology, or computational linguistics.
