Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering, a minimum of seven years of transportation structural/bridge design experience, a Professional Engineer (PE) license, and a current National Highway Institute (NHI) Bridge Inspection certification (preferred). Familiarity with structural analysis and design of conventional and complex bridges is essential, along with experience in preparing MDOT, ODOT, or other DOT’s, and Local Agency bridge design packages. Proficiency in software such as AutoCAD/Civil 3D, MicroStation/Geopak/ORD, and knowledge of AASHTO, AREMA, and DOT design standards are also required.
The Structural Bridge Engineer will serve as a technical lead in the design and management of conventional and complex bridges, conducting bridge load ratings and performing bridge inspections/scoping and condition assessments. They will prepare Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) packages, design and manage civil projects including bridges and other infrastructure, conduct construction support services, and assist with scope, budget, and schedule management. Additionally, the role involves technical writing, analytical skills, communication with other engineering disciplines, preparation of permits, mentoring staff, and participation in client, public, and project meetings, as well as contributing to proposals, marketing, project reports, and technical presentations.
