Requirements

Candidates must have at least 6 years of professional software engineering experience and a minimum of 5 years of experience coding with Ruby on Rails. A strong understanding of SQL and RDBMS is required, along with experience in designing and implementing scalable, API-first systems and exposure to event-driven architectures. Mentoring experience and the ability to operate with little-to-no technical guidance are necessary, as well as comfort in a fast-paced startup environment. A location in Central or Eastern US time zones is strongly preferred, and the company is unable to sponsor employment visas.

Responsibilities

The Staff Software Engineer will write clean, maintainable, and efficient code primarily in Ruby on Rails, while also engaging in pair programming and mentoring junior engineers. They will set engineering standards by example, drive advanced design tasks, develop technical roadmaps, and collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product and Actuarial teams. Participation in daily stand-ups and weekly retrospectives is expected, along with providing subject matter expertise and support.
