FutureFit AI is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Scientist to join our high-velocity, high-intensity, and high-trust Data Team. This role is for individuals who are driven by making a meaningful and positive impact, possess humility, and pursue audacious goals. Your Role

You will be instrumental in shaping our data science products, including our recommender systems and data ontology.

• 70%: Improving our recommendation engine.
• 20%: Building data ontologies to power the recommendation engine.
• 10%: Serving as a strategic partner to the VP of Data and Product, re-thinking recommender architecture and optimizing industry data utilization.

Reporting Structure

This role reports directly to Katya Simpson, VP of Product and AI.

Responsibilities

• Own problem spaces from conception to maintenance, including defining product requirements with stakeholders.
• Set the standard for high-quality recommender science.
• Uphold best practices in data science and machine learning.

Requirements

• Proven experience with recommendation engines, including cold-start scenarios.
• Classical machine learning expertise.
• Data ETL experience (e.g., Airflow, DBT, or similar).
• Familiarity with modeling structured and unstructured data from NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB).
• Strong ability to translate vague problems into actionable business insights.
• Excellent communication skills for presenting insights to diverse stakeholders.
• Experience with production-grade NLP, including the use of LLMs.

Experience

• Demonstrated professional experience in high-performing settings.
• Experience in both big tech and startup environments is a plus.
• Experience in the workforce development industry is a plus.

Location

• Open to candidates located anywhere in Canada or the US.
• For candidates in Toronto, the office is at 325 Front St West. Team members typically come into the office 1-2 times a week, often on Wednesdays.
