Requirements
- 5+ years’ hands-on database administration experience, with a minimum of 3 years in PostgreSQL
- Python scripting experience or Unix shell scripting experience
- Excellent understanding of PostgreSQL database concepts and structures
- Familiarity with running PostgreSQL databases on modern cloud platforms
- Knowledge of clustering architectures
- Exposure to AWS RDS/AWS and Aurora (preferred)
- Familiarity with data pipelines and tooling like Kafka
- Exceptional writer and spoken communicator
- Highly organized and autonomous
- Comfortable and energized operating in a fast-moving organization
- Passionate about the product and working with enterprise-sized businesses
Responsibilities
- Work with application engineers and architects to shape ongoing data management strategy across relational and non-relational storage platforms
- Perform database maintenance, including upgrades, patching, security, troubleshooting, issue resolution, backup procedures, and performance tuning
- Consult with software engineers and advise on optimizing query performance
- Plan and perform database upgrades
- Work closely with the application team to understand planned changes, perform impact analysis, and provide feedback
- Configure, administer, and maintain PostgreSQL database environments
- Collaborate with Software Engineering leaders to architect the platform for scale and review teams’ designs for DB scalability and resilience
- Provide support and direction to developers and other support personnel
- Deliver optics to the broader team for monitoring DB health and team impact on the DB
