Senior Software Engineer - Retirement Solutions Technology

Position Overview

Nationwide's Information Technology team is seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer to join the Retirement Solutions Technology team. This role focuses on developing and maintaining applications for RSC and DCdirect/RPLink, leveraging modern web technologies, APIs, and Java within a cloud-native environment. We are looking for individuals passionate about innovation, continuous improvement, and delivering extraordinary customer care through technology.

Requirements

• Experience:
  • Full-stack development experience building Angular web applications and Java server applications.
  • Proficiency in Java, JavaScript, Typescript, Angular, RESTful API, Apigee, and SQL.
  • Experience with AWS cloud technologies.
  • Experience using GitHub Version Control.
  • Experience working in an Agile team.
  • DevSecOps knowledge.
  • Experience building automated tests using Cypress is a plus.
  • Two or more years of analysis and technology experience.
• Education:
  • Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree.
  • Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.
• Skills & Abilities:
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of the software development lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to tackle moderately sophisticated business and development problems.
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Insurance/financial services industry knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, solution, develop, test, debug, document, and deploy software according to standards and best practices.
• Apply secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.
• Utilize DevSecOps practices, tooling, and techniques.
• Drive continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice, and innovation.
• Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables proactively.
• Craft new software applications or modify and/or support existing packaged or custom-built applications.
• May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships

• Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.
