Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, marketing, economics, accounting, or related field of study
  • 5 or more years of experience in a commercial role, trading or marketing including profit/loss responsibility for crude trading, contract negotiation, and scheduling (rail, truck, and pipe)

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements negotiating tactics and arranging the purchase and sale of crude oil as dictated by refinery economics, market conditions and logistical requirements
  • Interacts with Traders, Schedulers, Refinery Feedstock Coordinators, Accountants, Engineers, Analysts, Legal and other personnel across various departments to stay abreast of trading, logistical and financial activity, prepare contracts, address queries, and develop/implement acquisition or sales strategies
  • Evaluates and executes discretionary trade and business development opportunities beyond the core business (storage, blending, freight deals)
  • Manages basis commodity exposure and/or physical inventory position to maximize market structure value within operational constraints in collaboration with Refining, Scheduling, and Finance groups
  • Represents the Company at industry functions, keeps abreast of evolving industry conditions through training, reading, and maintaining internal/external contacts related to crude oil trading
  • Continuously reviews market conditions and short- and medium-term supply and sales plans; recommends and implements changes to optimize overall value to MPC (product yield shifts, sales channel shifts, import/export changes, etc.)
  • Optimizes transportation and storage asset utilization, while managing costs and maximizing economic benefit in collaboration with key stakeholders with a focus on short and medium term
