Software Engineer (Remote)

Overview of the Role

PolicyMe is on a mission to modernize insurance, making it simpler, more accessible, and customer-first. We are a remote-first, Toronto-based startup building the future of insurance in Canada and beyond.

We are looking for a Software Developer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will design, build, and ship features that improve our platform, deliver a better customer experience, and support the growth of our product. You will work closely with other engineers, product managers, and designers to create scalable, reliable solutions and contribute to an environment where ideas are welcomed and execution is collaborative.

You will work across the stack, contributing to both backend and frontend initiatives, while also participating in architecture discussions, release planning, and company-wide engineering initiatives. Our core stack includes Python, React, Redux, PostgreSQL, and AWS, and we are always open to adopting new tools and technologies that help us deliver better results.

What You'll Be Doing

• Contribute to feature development across backend and frontend using Python, React, Redux, PostgreSQL, and AWS
• Build and maintain scalable systems with a focus on accuracy, reliability, and performance
• Implement projects that establish single sources of truth for complex data sets
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and collaborative problem-solving sessions
• Take ownership of releases end-to-end (once ramped up), coordinating with QA and other teams
• Engage in cross-team communication to help unblock dependencies and improve release flow
• Share ideas during quarterly planning to help shape what we build next
• Participate in company-wide initiatives such as hackathons, engineering guilds, and AI tooling experiments
• Follow and improve engineering best practices to maintain a high-quality codebase

What We're Looking For

• Strong full-stack development skills with the ability to work across backend and frontend using Python, React, Redux, PostgreSQL, and AWS
• Experience designing and implementing architecture for complex systems
• Comfortable learning new frameworks, libraries, and tools quickly
• Proven track record of proactive communication with the ability to adapt technical explanations to different audiences
• Self-starter with a career-driven mindset who thrives in an environment with autonomy and accountability
• Collaborative team player with low ego who is open to feedback and eager to help others
• Detail-oriented approach to problem-solving, especially in complex domains
