Position Overview

Flex is a growth-stage FinTech company headquartered in New York City, dedicated to revolutionizing the rent payment experience. We aim to make rent payment flexible, accessible, and less burdensome for renters by allowing them to pay rent throughout the month according to their financial schedules. We are seeking motivated individuals to join our mission to empower renters with greater control over their finances.

About the Job

As a Software Engineer at Flex, you will be instrumental in implementing the backend systems that power all our business features. You will be part of the backend engineering team, responsible for the services and integrations that drive our products, including Payments, Billing, Identity, and partner integrations. Your role will involve designing, developing, testing, and scaling systems to deliver exceptional user and partner experiences.

You will collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering peers to address the most critical challenges renters face with rent payments. You will deploy changes to customers in an agile manner, prioritizing small, frequent iterations. The ideal candidate will be comfortable leading the scoping, design, and implementation of APIs, and driving their production rollouts with minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience with Java.
  • Ability to thrive in a globally-distributed team environment with a high degree of ownership.
  • Experience working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, effectively aligning expectations on scope and delivery.
  • Capacity to grow and excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proven experience building robust, fault-tolerant systems with multiple external dependencies.
  • Proficiency in Java frameworks and tools used at Flex, including Spring (core/web/boot), Gradle, JUnit, and JVM (memory/performance tuning, GC).
  • Experience with Service-Oriented Architecture, REST APIs, Message Queues, and scalable architectures.
  • Experience with AWS services (EKS, Aurora RDS, Elasticache, DynamoDB) and containerization tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in CI/CD systems (preferably GitHub Actions), Git, and automation.
  • Skilled in observability and monitoring tools, such as DataDog, to ensure high availability.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code, utilizing tools like CDK and Terraform.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in cross-functional collaboration.

Compensation

The salary compensation range for this role will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and Flex's internal leveling guidelines and benchmarks.

  • For working locations in NY/NJ/CA: The base salary pay range will be $179,000 - $194,000.
