Requirements

  • Strong Computer Science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design (OOA/D)
  • Proven experience building data-driven applications using RDBMS, NoSQL, and ElasticSearch
  • Hands-on experience crafting and developing microservices-based architectures
  • Expertise in Java, GraphQL, Spring/Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.)
  • Skilled in delivering results within Agile, TDD, and CI/CD environments
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems development, scalability principles, and performance optimization
  • 4+ years of expertise in backend software development, specializing in constructing extensive, distributed web platforms and APIs
  • Demonstrated ability to build, develop, and operate high-impact services in production environments
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Innovative and collaborative approach — functions effectively in cross-functional, fast-paced teams

Responsibilities

  • Compose & Build: Develop scalable, distributed, and highly available backend systems and services that support eBay’s global marketplace platform
  • End-to-End Ownership: Take full responsibility for subsystems within a larger domain, managing the entire software lifecycle—design, development, testing, deployment, observability, and monitoring
  • High-Quality Code: Translate product and build requirements into clean, efficient, and maintainable production-ready code
  • Testing & Automation: Develop automated tests, implement Test-First Development (TFD), and contribute to continuous integration and delivery pipelines
  • Technical Excellence: Build and implement microservices, ensuring strong performance, fault tolerance, and scalability across complex distributed systems
  • Collaboration: Partner effectively with product managers, designers, and other engineers to align technical decisions with business priorities
  • Code Reviews & Documentation: Perform code reviews, keep documentation up-to-date, and advocate for engineering guidelines throughout teams
  • Evidence-Centered Development: Build testable, measurable features that support continuous improvement and faster delivery cycles
  • Operational Support: Participate in release management, on-call rotations, and incident response to maintain an “always-on” platform
  • Continuous Improvement: Propose and evaluate multiple build options, identify areas for optimization, and drive technical excellence across projects
