Requirements

  • Licensed to practice law in CT
  • Significant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation
  • Litigation experience in handling the defense of Bodily Injury Auto, Bodily Injury Commercial, Bodily Injury Homeowners, Commercial Auto, Commercial Property, Complex Commercial, Premises Liability, Products Liability, Property Damage, Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist, and Wrongful Death claims (preferred)
  • Admission to Federal court (a plus)
  • Admission to RI and/or MA (a plus but not required)
  • Academic credentials, strong analytical skills, and legal acumen for successful litigation work
  • Requisite trial advocacy skills to independently handle matters as lead counsel or as part of a team
  • Ability to maintain a highly productive case volume with efficiency, proactive case management, strong work ethic, and high-quality work product
  • Minimal need for managerial oversight and guidance
  • Adept at utilizing technology and collaborating with support staff for efficient case management
  • Awareness of changes to the law, technology, local rules, procedural requirements, and legal/insurance industry impacts on litigation strategies
  • Subject matter expertise and trial advocacy skills for all Nationwide Trial Division (NTD) concentrations held, with ability and willingness to develop new ones as needed
  • Ability to provide factually, legally, and analytically sound opinions on case valuations, promptly updated and communicated

Responsibilities

  • Represent clients under commercial and personal lines insurance policies independently as lead counsel or as part of a larger team
  • Handle a mix of cases varying in complexity, severity, product lines, and specialized concentrations across all courts and agencies in assigned jurisdictions
  • Demonstrate trial advocacy skills, efficiency, proactive case management, work ethic, and work product quality in accordance with NTD standard methodology guidelines, claims, and client expectations
  • Utilize technology and collaborate with support staff for efficient case management
  • Stay aware of changes to the law, technology, local rules, procedural requirements, and other factors impacting litigation strategies
  • Perform with subject matter expertise in NTD concentrations and develop additional ones as required
  • Provide sound opinions on case valuations, promptly updated and communicated to clients and claims
  • Establish and maintain strong professional relationships with key associates in the Office of the Chief Legal Officer, claims partners at senior director level and below, and colleagues
