Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 6+ years of relevant experience building test systems in a test lab (or 4 years with a Masters/PhD, preferred)
  • CAD proficiency (ProE, SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
  • Mechanical/electrical problem-solving skills
  • Basic understanding of testing, testing equipment, good laboratory practices, and department metrics (preferred)
  • Experience with root cause failure analysis, design input/output traceability, user need collection, and risk analysis (preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills (preferred)
  • Comfortable and confident speaking in front of medium to large groups of people (preferred)
  • Test Lab/Test System experience (preferred)
  • Ability to bring tasks through to completion with minimal supervision (preferred)
  • Willingness to travel 10%

Responsibilities

  • Act as primary point of contact for design, development, fabrication, and implementation of electro-mechanical test systems
  • Establish system level strategies for development of new custom test equipment
  • Coordinate across functional areas to ensure alignment
  • Help set direction and engineering standards for the group
  • Develop skills and knowledge base of other engineers
  • Lead collection of Voice of the Customer (VOC) from key stakeholders
  • Prepare timeline and cost estimations for projects
  • Coordinate with and direct external suppliers or vendors for project completion
  • Provide input into selection of test equipment and methodologies
  • Develop and fabricate prototypes to evaluate new concepts
  • Provide input on vision, scope, and specifications for future test systems
  • Support all phases of test system development lifecycle (requirements, design, implementation, debug, verification, validation)
  • Coordinate activities of 1 or more temporary employees
  • Develop reports on key metrics such as on-time delivery and efficiency, detailing delays in testing schedule
