Zscaler is seeking an experienced Principal Software Engineer to join their ZFabric Infrastructure team. Reporting to the VP, Product & Engineering, this role involves carrying out DevOps and SRE duties for Big Data on various open-source platforms, monitoring platforms, managing cluster maintenance, troubleshooting, and deploying new cloud-based environments.

Requirements (Minimum Qualifications)

  • U.S. citizenship and security clearance are required.
  • 12+ years of experience in DevOps, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with Linux administration command line programs and scripting.
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Chef, Ansible, or Puppet.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), containerization, and orchestration tools (e.g., Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with at least one major cloud infrastructure provider (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, understand software environments and network topologies, and facilitate technical design sessions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Big Data infrastructure administration, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and upgrades.
  • Experience architecting and building Big Data solutions on-premises and in the cloud (including FedRamp) using IaC principles.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out DevOps and SRE duties for Big Data on various open-source platforms such as Hadoop, Spark, Trino, and Snowflake.
  • Monitor platforms and adhere to runbooks/SOPs to manage platform and application problems.
  • Familiarize with cluster maintenance processes and implement changes according to documented installation and validation plans.
  • Demonstrate robust troubleshooting (root cause analysis) and debugging skills to identify and rectify issues, and provide preventative advice.
  • Deploy new cloud-based environments (FedRamp) to support new and existing workloads.
