Description: Discord is a platform used by over 200 million people monthly for gaming and various other purposes. They are focused on enhancing the experience for game developers on their platform. This role involves becoming the voice of the developer community, supporting, educating, and inspiring developers by engaging with their questions, speaking at events, and relaying feedback to the team.
Responsibilities
- Be the voice that drives continuous improvement of the developer experience on Discord’s developer platform.
- Support platform developers by creating documentation, best practices, and code samples/projects.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Marketing, and other teams to highlight developer apps, improve experiences, and grow the app ecosystem.
- Host community events, lead technical workshops, deliver talks, and find creative ways to attract new game developers to the Discord developer ecosystem.
- Serve as an expert resource for the developer community by continuously learning about platform capabilities and design patterns.
- Work with stakeholders to define how the team can best work with the developer community, using community insights to influence the product roadmap.
Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in developer advocacy, engineering, or a related technical field.
- Gaming Experience: Practical experience building games or tools for game developers.
- Communication Skills: Proven ability to explain complex technical concepts in simple, clear language.
- Technical Understanding: Strong understanding of API design principles and development best practices.
- Platform Proficiency: Proficiency with at least one popular gaming platform (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot).
- Data Analysis: Proven ability to collect, analyze, and discuss data to set and track performance against goals.
- Teamwork: Experience working within cross-functional teams.
- Presentation Skills: Confidence presenting to diverse audiences (large and small, virtual and in-person).
- Passion: A passion for delivering technical documentation that inspires other builders.
Bonus Points
- Previous experience in a Developer Advocacy role.
- Experience with web gaming technology (e.g., Unity, Phaser, itch.io).
- Experience with web technologies (e.g., TypeScript, React).
- Experience with Discord’s APIs.
- Proficiency in Mandarin or Korean.
