Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of experience in seasonal color, container garden design, horticulture, or high-end garden maintenance
  • Deep understanding of Mid-Atlantic plant performance, bloom timing, deer pressure, microclimate impacts, and soil conditions
  • Ability to create elevated, cohesive color and texture compositions (portfolio or photo samples preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead small installation crews and manage work efficiently
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; professional and client-facing demeanor
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical work

Responsibilities

  • Develop seasonal color concepts for spring, summer, fall, and winter rotations, tailored to each property’s architecture and garden style
  • Produce planting plans, color palettes, and mood boards for client review and proposal development
  • Select plants suited to local climate, site-specific conditions, irrigation performance, and long-term visual impact
  • Source premium annuals, perennials, tropicals, specialty foliage, bulbs, and décor materials from preferred growers and vendors
  • Consult with clients and account managers to understand aesthetic preferences and site goals, and present designs and guide clients toward elevated, cohesive seasonal looks
  • Communicate proactively regarding timelines, weather impacts, plant substitutions, and care expectations
  • Track labor and material costs to maintain project profitability and ensure efficient use of resources
  • Lead and support crews during installation of seasonal color change-outs and container displays
  • Lay out plant material onsite to reflect approved design intent, scale, and flow
  • Ensure high-end craftsmanship standards, including spacing, layering, soil conditioning, container drainage management, and finishing presentation
  • Maintain clean, safe, and respectful work sites on private residential properties
  • Conduct scheduled property visits to evaluate plant health, irrigation, bloom performance, and overall aesthetic. Deadheading and freshening where necessary
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to pests, disease, irrigation irregularities, or site conditions
  • Plan and schedule timely seasonal rotations and holiday/winter container programs
