Responsibilities

  • Provides each resident with professional nursing care, assessment, and evaluations within scope of practice
  • Delivers nursing care by developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to residents, families, and friends
  • Provides resident care by reviewing physician prescriptions; communicating the nursing care plan and pertinent information to the health care team; coordinating with other healthcare providers; conferring with physicians
  • Develops nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories; examining residents; documenting physical condition, psychological status, and social factors; conferring with family and friends
  • Teaches healthcare requirements by establishing resident care goals; instructing residents, families, and friends on conditions, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions; providing information and resources
  • Evaluates resident care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes; reviewing records; noting changing conditions; re-evaluating and modifying care objectives and plans
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy resident care environment by adhering to infection-control policies, medication administration/storage procedures, controlled substance regulations, organization standards, policies, and legal regulations; alerting others to potential concerns
  • Keeps resident care equipment operating by following instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs
  • Keeps resident care supplies ready by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing/expediting orders; verifying receipt; stocking items
  • Coordinates admissions, discharges, and transfers to and from the facility
  • Directs and plans (as per job description)
