Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Registered nurse licensed by State Board of Nursing in the state of employment; license must be in good standing
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification required within 30 days of hire; bi-annual re-certification required
  • Formal training in management of the aggressive patient required within 60 days of hire; annual re-certification required
  • Previous psychiatric experience with children, adolescents, and adults preferred
  • At the Hospital’s discretion, may be required to hold a qualified medical professional (QMP) designation and be deemed competent as outlined in Medical Staff bylaws; evaluated and potentially renewed annually
  • Employees at Child/Adolescent Day Treatment programs licensed under HFS §40 required to have either training in psychiatric nursing (including work with children with mental health disorders) or 1 year of experience in a clinical setting with these children

Responsibilities

  • Implement patient care
  • Assess patients both physically and mentally
  • Collaborate with Psychiatrist, Therapist, Dietitians, and other members of the clinical team to develop appropriate plans of care
  • Communicate with patients and their families
  • Administer medication
  • Perform professional nursing activities to help patients achieve or regain and maintain maximum physical, emotional, or social functions, governed by Nurse Practice Act, Administrative Code, professional standards, and Rogers policies/procedures
  • Seek consultation with other health team members as patient condition and treatment goals warrant
  • Provide patient information to Patient Accounts department to ensure compliance with federal and state statutes
