Requirements

Enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited school of Radiologic Technology (specifically for 1st year radiology students accepted into the Avera McKennan Radiology program)
In preparation to be verified and registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
Some college education
Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
Commitment to Avera’s mission, vision, core values, and social principles
Uphold Avera’s standards of Communication, Attitude, Responsiveness, and Engagement (CARE)
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Compliance with safety principles, laws, regulations, and standards (e.g., CMS, The Joint Commission, DHHS, OSHA)

Responsibilities

Perform clerical/reception duties: answer phones, operate paging system, assist physicians and radiologists, greet patients, file and process requisitions/orders
Organize and maintain files, records, and logs; deliver and retrieve films from storage
Observe patients while technologists leave the immediate area for short periods
Assist clinical personnel with transferring patients to or from beds, chairs, wheelchairs, or stretchers
Assist with medical records reconciliation of signed orders to performed exams
Contact patients prior to scheduled service to provide exam information, anticipated time needed, answer questions (refer to technologist when appropriate), and pre-authorize exams timely
Assist with staff/student on-the-job training and orientation
Follow procedures for creating and dispatching CDs/copies to appropriate parties
Assist technologists in fluoroscopic, diagnostic, nuclear medicine, and other satellite areas of radiology
Assist technologists in positioning patients for mammograms, general radiographic exams, and portable radiographs
Provide support to technologists by assisting with radiographic exams and documentation, transporting patients, preparing for radiologist visits, and stocking work areas
Maintain confidentiality and promote Avera’s values of compassion, hospitality, and stewardship
