Requirements

Doctorate (PhD, PsyD, or EdD) or equivalent
Active Psychologist license from the state Licensing Board upon hire
Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds

Maintain confidentiality
Work effectively in a team environment, coordinating workflow with other team members
Comply with safety principles, laws, regulations, and standards (e.g., CMS, The Joint Commission, DHHS, OSHA)

Responsibilities

Provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and crisis intervention for acute, chronic, or moderately disturbed behavioral health patients
Coordinate a clinical treatment program for the diagnosis, treatment, or referral of clients/patients with moderate to severe mental, behavioral, and/or social adjustment issues
Adhere to policies assuring confidentiality of client communications
Provide a multi-disciplinary, holistic approach to client treatment, coordinating with appropriate hospital departments
Conduct individual, family, or group therapy sessions in accordance with American Psychological Association principles and Avera Psychology Section by-laws
Assess client/patient progress with referring physician or agency
Document therapy in accordance with hospital policies and procedures in Electronic Medical Record
Intervene as a crisis counselor in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment (e.g., substance abuse, suicide attempts, psychotic episodes)
Refer clients/patients to outside agencies where appropriate
Communicate with family members/significant others to enhance treatment effectiveness
Coordinate client/patient billing and modify treatment programs based on insurance coverage, plan provisions, and ability to pay
Provide educational programs on psychological topics to hospital/community groups as requested
Administer and interpret psychological assessment instruments in accordance with American Psychological Association principles and Avera Psychology Section by-laws
Provide clinical consultation services and community education services
