Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Legal, or a closely related field OR combined education and experience (related education or general accounting, financial, bookkeeping, or auditing experience considered on a year-for-year basis; Judicial Branch experience substitutes on a year-for-year basis)
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), theories, and practices
  • Knowledge of proper auditing standards
  • Skill in utilizing established accounting and auditing operating procedures related to accounting standards, applicable laws and regulations, and the Court’s Accounting Guidelines
  • Skill in professional writing
  • Skill in computer applications – Microsoft Office Suite and accounting system software
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to plan and conduct reviews, including reviewing and evaluating accounting records and statements
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with judicial officers, court staff, and the public
  • Ability to learn Probate accounting, legal procedures, and policies
  • Ability to learn and apply Arizona Rules of Probate Procedure, state laws, and other policies applicable to Probate Court and related to the laws governing conservatorships
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to create written reports to explain complex accounting scenarios in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to critically analyze accounting and legal procedures

Responsibilities

  • Review, monitor, and audit the management of assigned conservatorships, trusts, and descendent estates cases filed with the Superior Courts of Maricopa County, Probate Division
  • Ensure the integrity of the accounting for conservatorships, trusts, and descendent estates
  • Provide written reports to the Court and other interested parties detailing findings
