Physician Reviewer - Orthopedic Surgeon

Position Overview

This is a telework opportunity for an Orthopedic Surgeon to provide medical record reviews. The role offers flexibility in scheduling and caseload management, provided client-mandated turnaround times are met. Physician Reviewers are compensated on a per-case basis as a 1099 independent contractor.

Requirements

  • Location: Dallas or Houston area, Texas.
  • Licensure: Must hold a valid Texas (TX) License.
  • Experience:
    • Strong experience in analyzing the application of CPT codes in combination with usual and customary state fee schedule reductions across multiple jurisdictions.
    • In-depth understanding of CPT codes and associated state-specific fees.
    • Testimony/deposition/counter affidavit work experience.
  • Notary: Access to a TX notary or readily available for online notaries.
  • Credentialing: Maintain proper credentialing, state licenses, and any special certifications or requirements necessary for the job.

Responsibilities

  • Review all medical records and address client-posed questions using client-specific or nationally recognized evidence-based criteria.
  • Ensure review rationale is clear, concise, and adequately supported by documentation.
  • Identify, critique, and utilize current criteria and resources (national, state, professional association guidelines, peer-reviewed literature) to support sound and objective decision-making.
  • Provide copies of any criteria utilized in a review with the report in a timely manner.
  • Return cases on or before the due date and time.
  • Attend all required orientation and training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including responding to quality assurance issues, complaints, regulatory issues, depositions, court appearances, or audits.
