Requirements

  • Bachelor's Transcript showing Medical Laboratory Science degree or Bachelor's Transcript showing Medical Technology degree
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 6 months of employment or MLS - American Medical Technologists (AMT) within 6 months of employment
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 6 months of employment or Medical Technologist (MT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
  • Ability to work part-time (at least 48 hours per pay period), primarily day shift (6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) with rotating weekends, holidays, and on-call

Responsibilities

  • Performs testing utilizing established protocol with a high degree of accuracy in all departments of the laboratory
  • Performs calibration, quality control checks, and preventative maintenance steps on assigned instrumentation
  • Reviews, researches, interprets, and reports data; assumes responsibility for distinguishing between normal and abnormal clinical parameters
  • Properly identifies patients before specimen collection, explains collection procedures, and provides necessary preparation and collection instructions
  • Collects, receives, and transports blood and other specimens from patients following accepted standards of practice; performs phlebotomy and other specimen collection procedures competently
  • Implements and monitors laboratory inventory and control program
  • Responsible for resource utilization (supplies and equipment) in department
  • Actively participates in quality assurance program; recommends corrective action for problems identified; reviews policies and reads procedures as scheduled; assists in preparation for inspections and participates during inspections
  • Types and cross matches patients requiring transfusions, requests and receives units of blood from supplier, and maintains necessary records
  • Mentors new employees and assists with their orientation; leads by example following CARE standards
