Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, along with at least five years of experience in mechanical design and materials science, particularly within operations, manufacturing, technology, aerospace, or defense. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required, supported by a deep understanding of engineering first principles, and familiarity with CAD software such as Siemens NX, Solidworks, or Fusion360, as well as experience with FEA software packages.
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, simulating, and optimizing aircraft structural assemblies in CAD, characterizing materials and their properties, operating the additive cell and assisting in tuning parameters, developing new processes and hardware to assist in manufacturing, documenting work, and representing the Orb brand through service to others via aviation, co-workers, customers, and stakeholders.
Democratizes aviation through merit-based programs
Orb Aerospace focuses on making aviation more accessible by providing practical solutions for individuals with proven skills, regardless of their educational background. Their main product is a fellowship program called Orbship, which selects candidates based on their project portfolios and problem-solving abilities through a competitive selection process that includes a project review, video interview, and a pitch competition. This merit-based approach sets Orb apart from traditional flying taxi companies, as they prioritize skill over formal qualifications. The company generates revenue through advanced manufacturing contracts and partnerships, demonstrating their reliability in the industry. The goal of Orb Aerospace is to democratize aviation opportunities and empower talented individuals to tackle complex challenges in the aviation and advanced manufacturing sectors.
