  • Familiarity with international, federal, state, and local regulations, including environmental regulations, CDC Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP), Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC), ISM Code, and National Parks or local native regulations
  • Ability to work 12 hours per day on a 6 weeks on, 6 weeks off rotational schedule
  • Proficiency with onboard computer systems and software applications, including NSE for maintenance tracking and requisitions

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the ship in a state of readiness at all times, including repair and maintenance of all vessel systems (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, HVAC, refrigeration)
  • Assign duties to and supervise Assistant Engineers and Engine Mechanics, including monitoring performance, counseling, conducting annual evaluations, and training new/relief staff
  • Maintain potable water and halogenation system, black/gray water/waste tanks, treatment, and testing program
  • Monitor and ensure completion of deficiencies noted in Cabin Maintenance Notebook
  • Oversee bunkering operations ensuring safety and environmental compliance
  • Follow preventative maintenance program on daily, weekly, and monthly basis for engineering, deck, and hotel systems
  • Prepare reports, communicate daily with captain, keep maintenance records, inventories, voyage status reports, and up-to-date logs using NSE
  • Make proposals for maintenance and repair projects, create material requisitions in NSE, and oversee compliance with annual operating budget, inventory, and requisitions
  • Communicate weekly with Ship Superintendent and prepare thorough turnover notes/discussions for relieving Chief Engineer
  • Maintain compliance with Technical systems onboard per CDC VSP and ADEC regulations; liaise with bridge and Expeditions team for environmental compliance
  • Follow company safety and pollution prevention policies, conduct periodic inspections for safe vessel operation, and request supervisory assistance when necessary
  • Prepare vessel for U.S. Coast Guard annual dry-docks and other inspections in conjunction with Port Engineer
  • Participate in shoreside training as required and maintain familiarity with all safety duties
