Requirements
Candidates should have 8+ years of professional WordPress development experience with advanced proficiency in PHP, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3/SASS, and MySQL. Strong experience with custom WordPress theme and plugin development, ACF, Gutenberg/Block Editor, and third-party integrations is required. A solid understanding of WordPress core, hooks, filters, REST API, and multisite environments is necessary. Knowledge of WordPress hosting solutions and proficiency with Node, npm, Git, Gulp, Webpack, Bootstrap, jQuery, and Tailwind are also required. Experience working with a mature design system, localization, modern translation plugins, large-scale multisite installations, performance and media optimization, caching strategies, and WordPress security best practices are essential. Strong debugging and problem-solving skills are crucial, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience with React, REST API/GraphQL, custom block development, and CI/CD pipelines are preferred.
Responsibilities
The Lead WordPress Engineer will be responsible for the development and maintenance of custom WordPress themes and plugins, following best practices and modern coding standards. They will develop and implement strategies for streamlined content management, architect scalable and performant WordPress solutions for high-traffic websites, and collaborate with design and product teams to translate UI/UX designs into functional WordPress implementations. The role involves collaborating with the design system team to implement design consistency, integrating third-party APIs and services, and contributing to code reviews to uphold code quality standards. Responsibilities also include optimizing websites for SEO, accessibility, performance, and responsiveness, managing and improving WordPress hosting configurations, deployment pipelines, and version control processes. The engineer will stay up-to-date with WordPress core updates, trends, and vulnerabilities, ensuring timely upgrades, and debugging and troubleshooting issues across the entire stack.
