Requirements

  • Functions under direct supervision and authority of physician or licensed provider for clinical tasks
  • Maintains inventory of examination/procedure room supplies
  • Assists in organization of efficient patient flow and clinic environment for patient safety

  • Acts as role model and provides guidance for other medical assistants
  • Prioritizes (triages) patient needs from phone, electronic, and walk-in communications; returns messages timely
  • Knowledge of all patient programs and scheduling processes (e.g., chronic kidney disease education, nutrition, other classes)
  • Travels to various locations as scheduled and provides coverage for other medical assistants
  • Follows all processes, procedures, HIPAA, privacy policies, and assures confidentiality
  • Accepts responsibility for individual actions and judgments; complies with laws, regulations, standards, and policies
  • Escalates issues to supervisor as necessary; assists with projects as assigned

Responsibilities

  • Assists in patient care: rooms patients, obtains weight, vital signs, BMI, patient history, collects specimens, assists with procedures, completes forms/requisitions/consents, documents in EMR
  • Elicits medical information (health history, medication changes, chief complaint, etc.) and records/documents accurately, appropriately, and timely
  • Preps charts for appointments (retrieves labs, tests, imaging, hospital notes); requests records for new patients
  • Administers injections as ordered by provider (if applicable)
  • Manages pharmacy refills, scheduling orders/referrals, obtaining/reporting/tracking lab results, phone messages, and faxes per policies
  • Stocks equipment and supplies in assigned rooms daily; identifies and notifies provider of critical patient status changes
  • Prepares and closes medical records accurately, appropriately, and timely
  • Answers patient questions on procedures/medications within scope of practice
  • Communicates information accurately, concisely, timely, and professionally
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
