Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • 12+ years of engineering lab / product development experience
  • 5+ years of leadership or managerial experience
  • Prior work experience in a regulated industry (medical device, pharma, aerospace, defense)
  • Strong coaching and people management skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for lab operations supporting product development/R&D team across the full technology lifecycle
  • Implement operating mechanisms for effective technical lab support, stakeholder communication, SOP drafting, and compliance
  • Be accountable for internal & external audits, presenting required evidence
  • Develop & track procedures, establish and maintain service contracts and warranties with vendors
  • Direct and coordinate laboratory support staff for R&D project lab activities
  • Plan and execute preventative maintenance and calibration for lab requirements
  • Maintain adequate inventory of materials and laboratory equipment
  • Ensure effective operation of all laboratory equipment and serve as point of contact for instrument repairs
  • Organize and participate in vendor negotiations, product and software evaluations, tutorials, and facility modifications
  • Interface with EHS and act as liaison for lab modifications and safety compliance
  • Provide technical input to purchasing and other functional areas
  • Troubleshoot and repair general instrumentation
  • Train new scientific staff in instrumentation use and create/refine user protocols
  • Serve as single point of contact for stakeholder communication and maintain dashboards
  • Enable operational excellence & continuous improvement initiatives
  • Manage budget accountability for department/function
  • Manage subordinate supervisors and/or experienced professionals
  • Provide tactical/operational leadership and coaching
  • Define performance goals/targets, conduct performance reviews, staff 1:1s, and guide performance management/employee development
  • Identify and mitigate risks
  • Propose modifications to functional operating policies and day-to-day processes
  • Communicate with internal/external customers and vendors to gain cooperation
