Position Overview

As the Jira Developer, you will establish and execute an organization-wide Jira strategy while serving as the technical expert for our Jira ecosystem. Your role combines strategic vision with hands-on development capabilities to create a cohesive, integrated Jira environment across all business units.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a comprehensive Jira strategy that aligns with business objectives and creates consistency across departments, ensuring all teams operate under a unified approach.
  • Design, implement, and maintain advanced Jira configurations including custom workflows, permissions structures, and sophisticated automation rules that serve diverse team needs while maintaining strategic coherence.
  • Develop custom technical solutions using both out-of-the-box functionality and scripted approaches, including custom scripts, REST API integrations, webhooks, and advanced workflow customizations to extend Jira's capabilities.
  • Create and manage integrations between Jira and other business-critical systems, designing bidirectional data flows that enhance cross-functional visibility and reporting.
  • Build scalable Jira solutions through code-based customizations using Groovy, JavaScript, Python, or other scripting languages to address complex business requirements beyond standard configurations.
  • Implement comprehensive automation strategies that reduce manual work and ensure data integrity across the Jira ecosystem.
  • Provide consultative guidance to stakeholders on Jira capabilities, helping translate business requirements into technical solutions that optimize workflow and reporting.
  • Coordinate with technology leaders across the business to ensure Archer’s Jira strategy fits into the broader integration and technology framework.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation covering custom configurations, scripts, and integrations to ensure knowledge transfer and system sustainability.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Jira administration with demonstrated ability to develop cohesive strategies across multiple business units.
  • Strong technical development skills including proficiency in scripting languages (Groovy, JavaScript, Python), REST API development, and webhook configuration for Jira customizations.
  • Proven expertise in developing custom Jira solutions that extend beyond out-of-the-box configurations to meet complex business requirements.
  • Experience building and maintaining integrations between Jira and other business systems, with the ability to develop robust, scalable data exchange mechanisms.
  • Advanced knowledge of Jira's technical architecture and ability to customize the platform through Automation for Jira, ScriptRunner, or custom code development.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to translate business needs into technical Jira solutions and troubleshoot complex system issues.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively bridge technical capabilities with business objectives and educate stakeholders on Jira best practices.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with Jira Software Cloud API development and custom app creation.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD processes and integrating Jira with development tools like Bitbucket, GitHub, Jenkins, Teamcity, or similar.
