Senior (5 to 8 years)
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in digital logic design using FPGAs or ASICs. A strong proficiency in VHDL or Verilog for writing efficient, synthesizable code is essential, along with hands-on experience with Quartus Prime Design tools including Timing Analyzer, Platform Designer, Signal Tap, System Console, Design Space Explorer II, Power Analyzer, Fitter, Logic Lock Regions, Interface Planner, Chip Planner, and Questa-Intel® FPGA Edition Software. A solid understanding of the complete FPGA design flow, including RTL synthesis, place-and-route, and static timing analysis, is required. Advanced proficiency in English, both written and verbal, is also necessary. Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant FPGA-related technical discipline and previous experience in a customer-facing role such as Applications Engineer or Field Applications Engineer (FAE).
The FPGA Senior Applications Engineer will provide timely and accurate technical support to customers, resolving issues related to Quartus Prime software, FPGA/SoC architecture, and IP integration. Responsibilities include systematically debugging customer designs by analyzing HDL code, timing reports, and tool configurations, and utilizing in-system debugging tools like Signal Tap Logic Analyzer for hardware troubleshooting. The engineer will guide customers on design best practices for performance, area, and power optimization, focusing on timing closure using Timing Analyzer and advising on power estimation and optimization strategies. They will also support customers in creating complex SoCs with Platform Designer, integrating Altera IP cores, processors, and peripherals, and assist in integrating high-speed protocols and memory controllers. Additionally, the role involves developing and delivering technical content such as application notes, design examples, and tutorials, and acting as the voice of the customer by collaborating with R&D and marketing to influence product and tool enhancements.
