Requirements

  • Intermediate level knowledge of engineering principles and proficiency in applying theory and analytical techniques to solve diverse problems and complete extensive analysis
  • Competency in analytical techniques for assignments of moderate complexity (e.g., dividing problems into component steps)
  • Ability to understand interrelationships between systems and component equipment
  • Ability to analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes
  • Experience or focus in EHV Transformer asset failure prevention, CCVT, CB analysis, and asset health monitoring retrofit/new install projects
  • Knowledge of Proactive monitoring for EHV Transformer, CCVT, CB asset failures, Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU), Power Quality (PQ) monitoring for large loads (data centers, cryptocurrency, AI facilities, IBRs), TPL007 GIC/GMD monitoring, and harmonics/frequencies analysis
  • Background in Condition-Based Maintenance and Condition-Based Renewal activities

Responsibilities

  • Perform intermediate level engineering work activities and projects in a safe, effective, efficient, and economic manner
  • Focus on SWEPCO/PSO EHV & HV Asset Health Monitoring, including retrofit and new install projects
  • Conduct proactive monitoring to prevent EHV Transformer, CCVT, and CB asset failures with advance alarm analysis across AEP footprint
  • Support Condition-Based Maintenance and Renewal through asset health monitoring in SWEPCO/PSO region
  • Perform proactive grid monitoring via PMU and PQ for large load data centers, cryptocurrency facilities, AI training facilities, IBRs, and LFOs, including data analysis and monitoring for impacted areas/customers
  • Monitor TPL007 GIC/GMD and background system performance data (harmonics, frequencies) before/after large load connections to support customers and AEP engineering
  • Coordinate work activities of others within work group, department, or corporate entity to complete routine activities
  • Perform routine engineering activities with minimum direction from higher-level employees, following company policies, standards, rules, and external regulations
  • Provide training and guidance to lower-level employees
  • Coordinate development of input for forecasting costs on routine projects, improvements, requisitions; use scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts) for budget/planning
  • Initiate corrective action when project objectives are not met
  • Resolve and initiate solutions to routine problems, identify non-routine problems, and seek opportunities for new ideas/approaches
  • Develop, review, or present technical reports (improvement requisitions, studies, analyses) clearly and concisely
  • Act as an active team member, network with peers inside/outside AEP, identify stakeholders, use informal networks, resolve conflicts, and build consensus
