Requirements

  • Associate degree in applied science (AAS) drafting and computer aided design (CAD) or in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering technology, with one (1) to two (2) years of relevant equivalent experience
  • Or equivalent experience without AAS degree: high school graduate and six (6) years of experience in electric utility and/or related industrial drafting and/or computer aided drafting work
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Proficiency in Vault
  • Familiarity with PLS-CADD
  • Familiarity with conventional drafting symbols and drafting methods and ability to distinguish them
  • Available to work overtime, as required
  • Travel requirements expected 10% and not greater than 50% of the time

Responsibilities

  • Perform computer aided drafting to prepare maps, sketches, schematics and other engineering related drawings
  • Perform associated clerical work to properly manage and document work activities per AEP requirements
  • Utilize computer-aided design software (Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, PLS-CADD) to prepare and maintain high-quality maps, sketches, schematics, and engineering-related drawings
  • Demonstrate design expertise with focus on quality and compliance, working under direct to moderate supervision
  • Coordinate daily work routines to ensure efficient production and contribute to project success
  • Create, revise, and maintain comprehensive engineering records and material/property equipment documentation
  • Gather essential information from field notes, vendor catalogs, and site visits
  • Perform necessary calculations to ensure accuracy in assigned tasks
  • Review and check work performed by peers for accuracy and compliance with company methods
  • Work alongside various departments to ensure safety and efficiency
  • Assess designs for strength and conformity to accepted standards and integrate vendor specifications
  • Prepare estimates and requisitions as needed, ensuring budget adherence
  • Provide guidance and training to junior employees
  • Promote and participate in Accident Prevention and Safety and Health programs
  • Uphold corporate policies and demonstrate ethical behavior
