Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Law, or related field
  • 5-7 years of experience managing customs operations in an industrial environment
  • Proven knowledge and practice of international trade and related transportation modes and 3PL/4PL operations
  • Commitment to Excellence in Operations, with direct and cross-functional communication ability, and sharp focus on responsibility and accountability
  • Key functional competencies in multiple EU-related customs programs
  • Strong focus on customer satisfaction, sense of urgency, and bias for action
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Fluency in German & English (spoken and written)

Responsibilities

  • Manage relationships with current and potential customs brokers through daily interactions and monthly business reviews (MBRs) for countries under purview
  • Act as customs brokers point of contact for escalations and resolution of operational issues affecting customs operations
  • Prepare and submit all customs requests for duty
  • Monitor duty relief programs
  • Serve as first point of contact for all external customs audits and independent internal auditor for special customs regimes (AEO, OPR, Pref Origin)
  • Submit customs authorizations to authorities and manage renewals for countries under direct responsibility
  • Support import/export department
  • Provide support to Global Trade Operations (GTC) manager on targeted/specific customs topics and projects related to countries under direct responsibility
  • Review and support customs operational matters for EDS
  • Manage customs requests for duty refunds (in case of overpayment or after receipt of retrospective preferential origin documents)
  • Implement duty relief programs where applicable, supported by GTC
  • Support business in communication of classification issues to Aptiv Classification Team
  • Maintain and monitor all customs-related internal procedures (classification, valuation, preferred origin determination, etc.)
  • Monitor customs broker requirements and activities to ensure compliance with legal and Aptiv requirements
  • Handle monthly contracted broker reporting activity responsibility
  • Conduct customs spend analysis for countries under direct responsibility
  • Manage current regional reports and support implementation and management of Duties Spend and Savings tool
  • Represent GTO in all Aptiv Business units under direct responsibility on customs-related topics (including RFQ, Value stream, CIRF+, etc.)
  • Report, communicate, and coordinate operational customs matters on an ongoing basis with EMEA GTO Manager
  • Track achievements, penalties, and manage customs brokerage-related KPIs for countries under purview
  • Update customs processes as required by regulatory or business operating developments to maintain high customs compliance in a cost-effective manner
