The Curatorial Assistant, Photography role requires supporting all aspects of the Photography Department's work, including the Accessions program, management and interpretation of the permanent collection, and organization of temporary exhibitions. This junior position facilitates communication and workflow within the department and with external stakeholders such as museum staff, donors, artists, and arts professionals.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include assisting with the development and production of Accessions Committee meetings, preparing PowerPoint presentations and defense documents, and attending meetings to prepare and distribute minutes. The role involves supporting exhibition duties such as data inputting, producing checklists, library research, file management, and liaising with other departments. Additionally, it requires creating artist and object records, maintaining exhibition checklists databases, drafting correspondence, loan forms, manuscripts, and exhibition wall labels, and reviewing finished materials for accuracy and compliance. The assistant will also help prepare and coordinate special events and programs, facilitate external communication with artists, collectors, dealers, scholars, and museum colleagues, oversee department email, develop and track the departmental calendar, and coordinate weekly meetings. Drafting communications, processing invoices and expense reports, maintaining and archiving files, and coordinating travel arrangements are also key duties. Finally, the role includes assisting with collection and exhibition research, such as compiling biographies, chronologies, and exhibition histories.
