About the Team

The Borrowing (lending) business at Monzo is experiencing rapid growth, both in existing products and through planned new initiatives. The aim is to foster a positive experience with personal credit. The team is seeking driven, analytical, and creative individuals to contribute to this goal. The Flex product is reinventing credit cards to provide customers with greater visibility and control over their spending. The portfolio is expanding, and the team is growing to support future ambitions. This role is for a Director to lead the credit strategy for Flex originations, responsible for developing credit and pricing strategies as existing propositions evolve and new products and distribution strategies are developed. The credit teams are part of the Data Discipline, promoting a strong culture of data-driven decision-making across the company. There is a strong belief in powerful, real-time analytics and business empowerment. All data is centralized and easily accessible, with 90% of day-to-day data-driven decisions supported by self-serve analytics through Looker, allowing analysts to focus on more impactful business questions. The team offers an environment where ideas can be rapidly implemented, leveraging cutting-edge technology and agile ways of working. Credit analysts and managers are embedded within product squads alongside Product Managers, Engineers, Designers, Marketers, Customer Researchers, and Data Scientists, enabling fast-paced and innovative problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team responsible for developing credit and pricing strategies for Monzo's growing range of Flex products and distribution channels.
  • Collaborate closely with squad leadership to develop and execute an ambitious growth strategy for Flex.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of NPV models and affordability strategies that support Flex underwriting decisions.
  • Foster a culture of proactive, high-quality analysis and ensure the necessary credit capabilities, infrastructure, and talent are in place for safe scaling.
  • Partner with the Decision Science team to maximize value from internal and external data through advanced ML models.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders including Capital, Impairments and Forecasting, Financial Health (Collections and Recoveries), Finance, and Second Line Credit Oversight.
  • Serve as a member of the Borrowing Leadership Team, contributing to Monzo's overall borrowing strategy.

Requirements

  • Multiple years of experience in unsecured lending, with a particular focus on credit cards.
  • Ability to be hands-on while also stepping back to think strategically and proactively identify opportunities.
  • Working understanding of the regulations applicable to lending in the UK.
