Corporate Actions Associate

Position Overview

Alpaca is seeking a meticulous and experienced Corporate Actions Associate to join our clearing back office team. This role is crucial for processing and reconciling domestic and international corporate actions, ensuring accuracy and minimizing risk for all asset types supported by the broker-dealer, including equities, fixed income, and options.

Responsibilities

  • Primary Processor: Manage distributions (dividends, interest), reorganizations (reverse splits, mergers), and redemptions (maturities, calls).
  • Accuracy Validation: Review and validate corporate action event details with rigorous attention to accuracy before posting to customer accounts.
  • Vendor Interface: Daily interaction with external vendors and custodians (DTC, OCC, BNY, ICE) to confirm event and allocation details.
  • Reconciliation: Balance and reconcile all corporate actions booked against corresponding suspense and wash accounts, ensuring daily balancing of corporate action house accounts.
  • Break Resolution: Research and resolve breaks and open items promptly to prevent aging.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for corporate actions for internal departments and external partners.
  • Support: Respond to corporate action-related Zendesk tickets and manage voluntary corporate action requests.
  • Process Improvement: Enhance and iterate on procedures to incorporate new tasks, asset classes, and processes.
  • Automation Collaboration: Assist in the automation of daily self-clearing processes by collaborating with the engineering team.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay curious and learn other areas within the clearing space to provide assistance during downtime.

Requirements (Must-Haves)

  • Experience: 3+ years of Corporate Actions experience.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Direct DTC Corporate Action Web experience.
    • Knowledge of ICE CA data, BNY processing, and OCC Option CA processes.
    • Basic knowledge of SQL, Metabase, or other database coding languages.
    • Proficiency in adapting between Microsoft and Google document and spreadsheet solutions.
  • Industry Knowledge:
    • Knowledge of Brokerage Clearing operations and general knowledge of U.S. securities back office operations of a clearing firm.
    • Understanding of Financial industry rules, regulations, and laws.
  • Work Ethic:
    • Ability to work independently in a remote environment with strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
    • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
    • Adaptability to the ever-changing regulatory landscape of the financial industry.
    • Willingness to assist other functional areas when necessary.
  • Licensing: Possess a FINRA SIE or obtain it within the first 180 days of employment.
