Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Basic computer proficiency and functional knowledge with applications
  • Ability to read and write English
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to work in a standing position up to 10 hours
  • Training in hazardous material handling and emergency procedures
  • Tolerance for manufacturing environment exposure to noise, dust, grime, heat, and requirement to wear appropriate personal protective equipment

Responsibilities

  • Know and follow general company and corporate policies and procedures
  • Know, understand, and follow department policies and procedures
  • Operate automatic and manual chemical process equipment of varying complexity in various production processes in accordance with operating procedures
  • Control heat-treating furnaces, baths, and quenching equipment to alter physical and chemical properties of metal objects using specifications and methods of controlled heating and cooling (e.g., hardening, tempering, annealing, casehardening, normalizing)
  • Place parts in racks, trays, or baskets and load objects into furnace via conveyor or directly
  • Determine temperature and time of heating cycle, type and temperature of baths and quenching medium using heat-treating charts and knowledge of methods, equipment, and metal properties
  • Adjust furnace controls and monitor pyrometer to achieve prescribed temperature
  • Load parts into furnace
  • Remove parts after prescribed time and quench in water, oil, brine, or other bath, or allow to cool in air
  • Perform quality control analyses to complete in-process batches and identify variations
  • Report to work on time, follow instructions from supervisor or management, interact well with co-workers, and understand/follow work rules and procedures
  • Perform other various duties as needed or assigned
