Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or Supply Chain or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Five plus years of marketing, category management, product management and/or retail meat merchandising experience
  • Knowledge of fresh beef/pork cuts and the role each cut plays in the category
  • Retail meat and in store production knowledge/experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong financial acumen, analytical skills
  • Ability to influence and negotiate
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor in a matrixed organization to deliver results through a broad cross functional team
  • Demonstrated knowledge of category products and services, and industry trends
  • Strong presentation and project management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Nielsen Category Management tools, experience with purchasing systems is a plus
  • Ability to travel up to 15% depending on assigned categories

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive category business plans consistent with the Company's overall goals and strategies for assigned fresh beef and pork categories, including tactics in assortment, pricing, promotion, and shelf placement
  • Lead a broad cross functional team (inclusive of procurement team, fresh operations and execution – meat, DC sales, pricing, and marketing) throughout the business to deliver P&L results
  • Achieve sales, profits, and market share objectives for assigned categories in corporate retail stores and independent wholesale business
  • Negotiate and maintain relationships with vendor partners to increase sales and profits, lower product costs, maximize trade funds and optimize partnerships
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and best category management practices; make recommendations to improve current programs and processes
  • Work cross functionally with OwnBrands partners in keeping with overall company goals of achieving "best in class" ratings through packaging, innovation and strategic positioning for private label products
  • Retrieve, analyze and interpret performance versus budgeted objectives for category sales and fair share trends using A.C. Nielsen reports, scorecards, profit and loss statements and other internal systems
  • Manage assigned assets to achieve category roles and results through category strategies executed via product assortment, pricing, promotion, shelf/fixture presentation, buying and inventory management decisions to achieve net profit goals and total customer satisfaction
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed
