Requirements

MA/MS in social work, counseling, or a related behavioral health field, or a degree in nursing, and minimum of 3 years of experience with facility-based and/or outpatient psychiatric and substance abuse or substance abuse disorder treatment (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Current active unrestricted license such as RN, LCSW, LPC (as allowed by applicable state laws), LMFT, or Clinical Psychologist to practice as a health professional within the scope of licensure in applicable states or territory of the United States (licensure required; exceptions for specific UM/ABA roles under licensed supervision)
Prior managed care experience required
Must be licensed in California

Responsibilities

Manage psychiatric and substance abuse or substance abuse disorder facility-based and outpatient professional treatment health benefits through telephonic or written review
Use appropriate screening criteria knowledge and clinical judgment to assess member needs, ensuring access to medically necessary quality behavioral healthcare in a cost-effective setting per UM Clinical Guidelines and contract
Work with all levels of care, with emphasis on Outpatient Providers
Perform timely Behavioral Health utilization reviews
Work with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate continuity of care and seamless transitions between levels of service
Refer cases to Peer Reviewers as appropriate
Perform psychiatric and substance abuse or substance abuse disorder assessment, coordination, implementation, case planning, monitoring, and evaluating to promote quality member outcomes, optimize health benefits, and promote effective use of benefits
Identify and address barriers to treatment to improve client engagement and outcomes
Maintain accurate and complete documentation of reviews, decisions, and care plans
Serve as a resource to other BH Care Managers
Assist with more complex cases and participate in inter- and intradepartmental teams, projects, and initiatives
