Requirements

  • Full job knowledge of production-related systems and procedures obtained through prior work experience with Materials Auxiliary or education
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience
  • May require vocational or technical education or certification in addition to prior work experience
  • May require vocational training and/or certification
  • Ability to work under moderate supervision, with general supervision for routine work and detailed instructions for new activities
  • Knowledge of operating equipment and established operational procedures
  • Ability to perform intermediate activities requiring judgment and decision-making in manufacturing/production operations or distribution center
  • Ability to handle routine problems in current work processes and systems
  • Ability to communicate with internal contacts, obtaining and providing information requiring some explanation or interpretation
  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks such as packing/unpacking, lifting, verifying weights, etc

Responsibilities

  • Performs a combination of manual and clerical shipping and receiving duties, potentially in a central warehouse
  • Uses computer system for tracking, logging, verifying, and reporting
  • Follows shipping practices and procedures, transportation routing, schedules, and requirements
  • Receives incoming materials or prepares materials for shipment
  • Packs or unpacks items such as finished products, raw stock, assemblies, parts, building materials, office supplies, equipment, etc
  • Verifies quantity, weight, and conformance of materials to stated identifications
  • Logs receipt of items on system, processes freight bills, packing sheets, and other documents
  • Reports materials shipped and bills of lading; posts weight and shipping charges and routes merchandise to destinations
  • Provides support in manufacturing operations and/or distribution centers including assembly, machinery, processing, packaging, and/or distribution of company products
  • May set up and operate automatic or semiautomatic machines and related equipment in continuous production/processing operations
  • Reports any malfunctions or abnormalities in machines; may recommend or make adjustments to methods and processes
  • May be involved in shipping, receiving, inventory control, or storage of products in distribution centers
  • May provide guidance and assistance to new or entry-level employees
  • Other duties may be assigned
