AI Tutor - Chemical Engineering

Position Overview

As an AI Tutor specializing in Chemical Engineering, you will play a crucial role in advancing the development of AI systems. Your expertise will be utilized to review and evaluate expert-labeled data across key chemical engineering domains including thermodynamics, process systems, transport phenomena, and chemical reactions. This position ensures that AI outputs adhere to rigorous scientific and engineering principles. This is a contract, remote position with flexible, variable time commitments. The services provided are supplementary and not integral to Handshake’s primary business operations, being distinct and separate from core business activities.


Responsibilities

  • Assess the quality of annotations and AI-generated outputs within chemical engineering subject areas.
  • Apply technical knowledge to ensure the accuracy of content related to kinetics, reaction engineering, and materials processing.
  • Utilize proprietary tools to provide structured feedback and enhance annotation workflows.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to refine task guidelines and optimize tooling.
  • Stay updated on evolving task specifications and adapt to new content types.

Requirements

  • PhD (or ABD) in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field, obtained within the last 10 years.
  • Strong written communication skills, particularly in technical and analytical contexts.
  • Proficiency in evaluating problem-solving methodologies relevant to process design and control.
  • Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking abilities.
  • Demonstrated interest in the intersection of AI, engineering, and innovation.

Bonus Areas of Expertise

  • Research experience with published work in a reputable journal.
  • Previous experience as an AI tutor.
  • Teaching experience (professor, teacher, or tutor).
  • Experience in technical writing, journalism, or professional writing.

Additional Requirements

  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to quickly acquire new skills and adapt to evolving requirements.
  • Personal device must support Windows 10 or macOS Big Sur 11.0 or later.
  • Reliable access to a smartphone.

Location & Work Expectations

  • Fully remote position.
  • No visa sponsorship available.
  • Not hiring in Wyoming or Illinois at this time.

Compensation

  • Compensation range: $55/hr - $100/hr.
  • For cash compensation, we establish standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles, considering function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. Salary ranges are shared on all job postings for compliance with local legislation and to provide transparency. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including geographic location, candidate experience, and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed.
