Position Overview

Confluent is revolutionizing data streaming with a platform that puts information in motion, enabling companies to react faster, build smarter, and deliver dynamic experiences. We are seeking a Senior Engineer to join the WarpStream team, responsible for an Apache Kafka-compatible data streaming platform built on object storage with zero local disks. This is a BYOC-style offering. As a Senior Engineer, you will contribute across the entire stack, from the storage engine in Agents to the scalability of our multi-tenant control plane, implementing new features, and enhancing our developer console.

About the Role

The WarpStream team is a small, collaborative group of fewer than 10 engineers. You will be expected to work across the full stack, tackling complex distributed systems problems at scale. This includes:

• Working on the storage engine running in the Agents.
• Improving the scalability of our multi-tenant control plane.
• Implementing new features such as transactions and active-active multi-region clusters.
• Developing HTML/JavaScript for our developer console.
• Bashing bits at the network level and ensuring a great developer experience.
• Building services that operate across different cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Participating in an on-call rotation.

The WarpStream team is fully remote, with engineers currently located in Spain, France, Canada, Ireland, and the USA.

Responsibilities

• Independently drive execution of complex technical projects end to end.
• Build mission-critical backend services that deliver value to our customers.
• Architect, design, develop, and operationalize high-performance, scalable, reliable, and resilient services.
• Troubleshoot and debug technical issues within a deep and complex technical stack, including microservices, containers, and virtualization.
• Ensure operational readiness of services and meet availability and performance SLA commitments to customers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of industry experience designing, building, scaling, and supporting backend systems in production.
• Solid grasp of software engineering practices, including code reviews, a deep focus on quality, and documentation.
• Strong programming and algorithmic skills, with proficiency in a major programming language (e.g., Java, Go, C/C++, Python).
• Deep curiosity and enthusiasm for distributed systems and storage systems.
• Strong focus on project delivery and communication skills.
• Experience in driving operational excellence for large production services.
• A strong sense of customer centricity, teamwork, technical leadership, and mentorship.
• Excitement about team and company success.
