Senior Security Engineer (Cryptography)

Position Overview

Zoom is seeking a Senior Security Engineer specializing in Cryptography to design and guide the implementation of encryption primitives for Zoom's video and meeting applications and services. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical knowledge in product security, a strong background in cryptography, and preferably experience implementing encryption primitives. This role involves collaborating with engineering teams across the company to design, develop, and validate security solutions, acting as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor for crypto design implementation and validation. You will provide architecture guidance, lead proof-of-concept implementations, and assist with the integration of encryption primitives, working with cutting-edge technologies in cloud, security, and cryptography.

About the Team

The Security Architecture team is dedicated to ensuring Zoom releases and deploys secure products. We collaborate with diverse engineering teams across the organization to achieve security goals and maintain compliance with established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and subject matter expertise in crypto design, implementation, and validation to engineering teams company-wide.
• Apply a risk-based approach to make informed security decisions and prioritize efforts.
• Evaluate existing solutions to identify gaps and recommend improvements or enhancements.
• Build Proofs of Concept (PoCs) or libraries that enable Zoom developers to easily consume and integrate crypto services.
• Conduct hands-on security training and promote secure coding best practices for crypto implementation among developers.
• Collaborate with peers and leaders across the company to establish and execute the vision for cryptography.

Requirements

• Cryptography Experience: Strong experience across multiple cryptographic domains, including asymmetric and symmetric key encryption algorithms, key management, secure protocols, and standards such as NIST guidelines for crypto and FIPS.
• Implementation Experience: 5+ years of designing and implementing modern encryption technologies in various technology stacks.
• Algorithm Knowledge: Subject Matter Expert (SME) knowledge of modern encryption and hashing algorithms, their usage, purposes, and weaknesses in varied scenarios.
• Secure Implementation: Proven experience in crafting safe crypto implementations is a must.
• Software Security: Understanding of Software Security Architecture and Design, Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), and the ability to clearly articulate best practices for application security.
• Development Skills: Strong development experience in one or more programming languages and platforms such as Java, JavaScript, Python, C/C++, Objective C, iOS, Android, Windows, or Mac.
• Education: Master's or PhD in cryptography, computer science, mathematics, or a related field is preferred.
• Communication: Effective communication skills are essential.

Salary and Compensation

• Salary Range: $146,700.00 - $339,300.00
• Total Direct Compensation: Zoom's Total Direct Compensation philosophy considers base salary, bonus, and equity value.
• Starting Pay: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
• Location-Based Compensation: Compensation may vary based on location.
