Twilio is seeking a Senior Counsel, Sanctions and Export Control to manage the company's compliance with U.S. export control and sanctions laws and regulations. This role requires a deep understanding of these laws and a proven ability to collaborate pragmatically across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice on sanctions and export controls to business operations, senior business leaders, and other key stakeholders on a broad range of regulatory, commercial, and diligence matters.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support, further develop, and implement Twilio's sanctions compliance program.
  • Participate in the implementation and enforcement of a governance framework, including defining and implementing control processes, and testing/monitoring plans to ensure operations remain in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Monitor and lead teams to ensure ongoing assessment of sanctions and export compliance risks, identify areas for improvement, and develop/implement mitigation strategies.
  • Proactively identify and assess potential risks, and work with legal, policy, and operational teams to develop risk mitigation approaches and drive cross-functional implementation.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to integrity and a solution-driven approach with a strong business partner mindset.
  • Operate independently and confidently manage multiple internal stakeholders, including senior leadership, to implement pragmatic solutions.

Qualifications

  • A law degree from a U.S. accredited law school and active membership in good standing with a state bar association in their principal work location.
  • A minimum of 7 years of legal experience working as an attorney on trade matters in a government agency, law firm, or in-house legal department in an international environment.
  • Expertise in export controls and sanctions, including OFAC and EAR regulations.
  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to effectively identify and articulate implications.
