Requirements

  • Doctorate (PhD, PsyD, or EdD) or equivalent
  • Active Psychologist license from the state Licensing Board upon hire
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
  • Preferred: 2+ years in the field of psychology or similar field

Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and crisis intervention for acute, chronic, or moderately disturbed behavioral health patients
  • Coordinate a clinical treatment program for diagnosis, treatment, or referral of clients/patients with moderate to severe mental, behavioral, and/or social adjustment issues
  • Adhere to policies assuring confidentiality of client communications
  • Provide a multi-disciplinary, holistic approach to treatment, coordinating with appropriate hospital departments
  • Conduct individual, family, or group therapy sessions in accordance with American Psychological Association principles and Avera Psychology Section by-laws
  • Assess client/patient progress with referring physician or agency
  • Document therapy in Electronic Medical Record per hospital policies and procedures
  • Intervene as crisis counselor in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment (e.g., substance abuse, suicide attempts, psychotic episodes)
  • Refer clients/patients to outside agencies where appropriate
  • Communicate with family members/significant others to enhance treatment effectiveness
  • Coordinate client/patient billing and modify treatment programs based on insurance coverage, plan provisions, and ability to pay
  • Provide educational programs on psychological topics to hospital/community groups as requested
  • Administer and interpret psychological assessment instruments per American Psychological Association principles and Avera Psychology Section by-laws
  • Provide clinical consultation services and community education services
