Candidates must have a hands-on technical background with experience in GitHub/GitLab workflows, pull requests, and open source collaboration. Experience with Ruby on Rails, familiarity with APIs, SDKs, or developer tools, and strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. Demonstrated experience building or sustaining an open source community, experience with event planning or participation, and knowledge of open source licensing, governance models, and community norms are required. The ability to work cross-functionally across engineering, product, and comms teams, legal authorization to work in the United States, and work authorization that doesn’t require visa sponsorship are also necessary. Prior experience as a developer advocate, evangelist, or community manager, public speaking experience, and familiarity with community health metrics are desired.
The Open Source Developer Evangelist / Community Manager will build and maintain a welcoming and sustainable open source community, creating high-quality content such as blogs, tutorials, videos, sample apps, and documentation. This role involves representing the project at conferences, hackathons, and industry events, delivering talks and workshops, and managing community platforms like Discourse, Slack/Discord, and GitHub. Responsibilities include designing and running contributor programs, partnering with other OSPOs, civic tech orgs, and industry groups, tracking and reporting on community health metrics, and advocating internally for developer needs. The role also ensures compliance with open source best practices, including licensing, governance, contribution guidelines, and documentation.
