Requirements

  • Enrolled in a master’s program or in 4th/3rd year of a Biomedical, Mechanical, Mechatronics (or similar) program
  • Preferably completed 2 to 3 previous co-op terms
  • Ability to work mostly in-office at Burnaby site (onsite, full-time)
  • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 kg of force occasionally/negligible frequently; involves sitting most of the time
  • Ability to communicate with groups of people
  • Ability to review printed materials
  • Ability to use common office equipment
  • Self-managed, self-motivated, with excellent hands-on problem-solving skills
  • Ability to generate and explain design objectives
  • Ability to complete detailed documentation accurately with astute attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Assist with mechanical design of Stryker Endoscopy products, focusing on hand-held medical imaging products (mix of design/testing, technical writing, meetings, quality management system development)
  • Release Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) of Device Master Record (DMR) documents into Agile Product Lifecycle Management software
  • Evaluate mechanical design options and conduct bench testing to determine acceptability criteria and optimal solutions given constrained timelines
  • Provide progress updates in meetings as required
  • Create test protocols, conduct tests, and generate test reports
  • Identify vendors and liaise in support of prototyping and new product development
  • Design and build test fixtures and jigs for verification and product testing as needed
  • Assist in assembly of prototype devices and development of opto-mechanical jigs & fixtures
  • Support project manager as required
  • Contribute to Quality Management System DHF/DMR development on new/existing products, including documentation, meetings, and cross-functional team liaison
  • Participate in front-end conceptual design and engineering activities on new products
  • Source components and identify appropriate vendors
  • Conduct product and component testing (early lab prototypes and formal verification)
  • Design test setups and conditions to investigate options for improving device performance
  • Work with vendor engineers to design systems, perform evaluations, and experiments during early design stages
  • Participate in design reviews, risk management, and risk control assessments
  • Understand and follow proper procedures/best practices; work with senior engineers to improve them
  • Actively contribute to and respect team decisions; strive for consensus; operate within company core values
  • Contribute to project planning and commit to deliverable goals; proactively report progress to project/R&D management
  • Take direction from senior engineers/R&D managers; complete tasks with minimal guidance; use resources responsibly
  • Proactively seek out senior technical leaders and managers as necessary
