Jr. Linux System Administrator

Position Overview

Maxar is seeking a Jr. Linux System Administrator to join our infrastructure team in Herndon, Virginia. In this role, you will work closely with software development, DevOps, and cybersecurity teams to create and maintain a private cloud and big data platform leveraging open-source tools. You will have the opportunity to directly support mission partners and contribute to solving unique and challenging problems.

We are a multi-faceted software development and systems administration team focused on building and maintaining software applications supported by a self-managed cloud infrastructure with a significant big-data footprint (over 10 petabytes). Our diverse experience in mission support and full-stack system development allows us to tackle complex intelligence challenges for special operations analysts. We prioritize prototyping and iterative feedback to ensure rapid delivery in support of our missions.

Responsibilities

As a member of the infrastructure team, your daily activities will include:

• Monitoring and addressing hardware and software outages on the platform.
• Assisting users of the OpenStack Cloud Platform with troubleshooting and requests via chat services.
• Collaborating with the cybersecurity team to implement security remediations.
• Upgrading and deploying applications on the platform.
• Integrating new hardware into various compute clusters.
• Reviewing and updating existing procedures and documentation.

Minimum Requirements

• Must be a US citizen.
• Current Top Secret security clearance with SCI Eligibility and willingness/ability to obtain a CI polygraph.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Substitution: Four (4) additional years of relevant experience may be substituted for a Bachelor's degree.
• Two (2) years of demonstrated experience administering Linux-based environments.
• Experience with tools such as Docker/Podman, Packer, Gitlab, Gitlab Runners.
• Skilled in Tier 1 and Tier 2 level support and troubleshooting complex environments.
• Ability to support a wide range of tasks including software upgrades, patching, system monitoring, and R&D.
• Willingness to work full-time on-site in Herndon, VA.
• Ability to be a self-starter.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with automation tools: Ansible, Bash, Terraform.
• Working knowledge of security-related tools: Security Center, Carbon Black, McAfee.
• Working knowledge of applying Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) to Linux operating systems.
• Three (3) or more years of demonstrated experience administering Linux-based environments.
• Full-stack development experience in Python.
• Experience with Kubernetes or Nomad orchestration.
• Experience with data-driven tools.
