Candidates should possess a strong knowledge of data center architecture, including minimum design requirements for network, compute, and storage racks, as well as layer 2/3 and virtualization platforms. Proven experience as a colocation, inside plant, or telecommunications facilities engineer in a large-scale data center or telecom environment is required, along with a solid understanding of physical design standards and IT security best practices in datacenters and colocation facilities. Furthermore, candidates should have a strong understanding of public cloud infrastructure and cloud-native applications, ideally with demonstrable experience in scaling a geographically diverse production network. Excellent troubleshooting skills and strong communication and interpersonal skills are also necessary, along with relevant certifications such as CCNA, MCSE, VCP, or Autodesk Certified Professional. Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar software for designing data center layouts and infrastructure components is required.
The Infrastructure Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and creating layouts of data center infrastructure, encompassing facilities structure, cabinets, overhead ladders, raceways, structured cabling, aisles, cabinets, mechanical, electrical, servers, storage, and networking equipment. They will perform capacity planning and resource allocation to ensure the scalability and efficiency of the data center environment, monitor and optimize the performance of infrastructure components to meet service level agreements (SLAs), troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure-related issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams as needed, implement and maintain security measures to protect data center assets, plan and execute infrastructure upgrades and migrations with minimal impact on ongoing operations, document configurations, processes, and procedures, stay abreast of the latest developments in data center technologies, and recommend and implement improvements as necessary.
