Requirements

  • Preference for a four-year degree (preferably in physics, chemistry, or engineering)
  • High school diploma, technical school, or GED required at a minimum, coupled with 10 or more years of relevant analytical experience
  • Mass Spectroscopy experience preferred
  • Ability to perform mathematical equations relevant to advanced Chemistry
  • Sound decision-making skills, ability to take decisive action based on limited input and determine when supervisory input is required
  • Proficiency in using computers, standard office software and systems (e.g., Microsoft Office, Mini-Tab, SAP, LIMS), and ability to perform accurate and quick data entry with no errors or transpositions
  • Heat tolerance required for certain tests (e.g., fire assay), including use of high temperature safety items such as heat shields, furnace gloves, and heat reflective safety clothing
  • Export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology (U.S. citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, asylee/refugee, or qualifying national via letter of assurance)

Responsibilities

  • Develop, validate, and continuously improve analytical equipment, test methods, and practices to generate high quality and timely test results
  • Maintain open and active communication with managers, reports, and other functions regarding workflow, issues, and opportunities for improvement
  • Work with equipment OEMs and Materion personnel to provide technical support, including selection, installation, maintenance, and method development for lab equipment
  • Plan and select tests required on material, and document test methods and practices for laboratory staff
  • Author technical reports, project updates, technical overviews, and possibly papers and patent applications
  • Participate in improvement projects and problem-solving teams
  • Serve as an information/training resource to lab staff, other Materion employees, and customers regarding analytic capabilities and testing methodology
  • Provide effective training to other lab personnel on use of analytical equipment and systems
  • Ensure and facilitate maintenance and/or implementation of accreditations (e.g., ISO 17025, NADCAP, AS9100)
  • Perform other duties as assigned
