The Onchain Pod within DevX is focused on shaping the future of developer experience for onchain developers, both within Coinbase and across the broader crypto ecosystem. We view the onchain platform as a foundational builder platform, akin to the internet itself. As a Staff Software Engineer on this team, you will play a crucial role in designing, building, and executing core solutions that drive our systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead the new Onchain Pod, defining its charter, vision, mission, and roadmap.
- Collaborate with stakeholders in Engineering and Security to identify and address pain points and insecure processes in the onchain development lifecycle.
- Architect and build new tooling to enhance onchain development for Coinbase and the wider ecosystem, while also augmenting and maintaining existing tooling.
- Drive the evolution of Web3 development towards Web2-level tooling, reliability, and ergonomics, reducing friction and increasing accessibility.
- Take ownership of the team's processes and services, ensuring adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Serve as a key technical voice within the team, contributing to sound architectural decisions and fostering a culture of high-quality code and engineering practices.
- Mentor and collaborate with team members to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Champion a "don't DIY unless necessary" philosophy by leveraging proven industry standards and modern frameworks.
- Stay current with emerging trends in the Web3 tooling ecosystem and integrate best-in-class solutions to accelerate internal development.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience.
- Passion for enabling onchain development.
- Extensive experience with smart contract deployments, execution, and management (particularly EVM).
- Deep understanding of how popular L1s and L2s function.
- Demonstrated energy and self-drive for continuous learning in the rapidly evolving crypto space.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of clear, direct, and kind interaction with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience building relationships with Security, Product, and Engineering teams.
- Ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term tactical planning.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS), containerization (e.g., Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform).
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Answers to crypto-related questions may be used to evaluate your onchain experience.
Nice to Haves
- Prior experience in Developer Experience/Productivity, Platform, or similar domain teams.
- Previous experience at a fast-paced, high-growth stage internet/software company.
- Contributions to open-source crypto projects (e.g., OP Stack).
- Experience with Golang, Geth, Rust, Reth, Foundry, Solidity, or other crypto tools.
- Interest in blockchain security, red-teaming, and exploit prevention.

Pay Transparency
Pay Range: $218,025 - $256,500 USD
Note: Depending on work location, the target annual salary for this position falls within the range specified above. Full-time offers from Coinbase also include target bonus, target equity, and comprehensive benefits (including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)).
